The National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) is the only referral laboratory of its kind in Burkina Faso. The project will expand the facility by building a toxicology unit, quality control and testing areas, and special storage facilities. In addition, measuring and analysis equipment will be procured, and a maintenance and repair workshop for laboratory apparatus constructed. Sensitization campaigns will be provided to all age groups, especially school children, on diet, hygiene and other topics.
Once the new facilities are operational, health indicators are expected to improve considerably, allowing the revenue saved by providing services locally to be invested in other medical programs.
