This project aims at boosting the availability and quality of Nicaragua’s energy supply to help reduce poverty. This will be done by:

  • carrying out of rural electrification works;
  • legalizing of unauthorized household connections;
  • development of electricity solutions in rural "off-grid" areas;
  • development of renewable energy sources;
  • carrying out of energy efficiency programs.
Approximately 20% of Nicaragua’s 5.7 million-strong population who are currently not connected to the electricity distribution system are expected to benefit from the project.
