Government has prioritized the improvement of basic infrastructure, particularly roads, as they provide important links to tourism centers, export-processing zones and agricultural and mining markets. The project, which is the first phase of a wider initiative, will target selected sections of the country’s national road network.
- rehabilitattion of some 239 km of roads;
- carrying out of preventative maintenance carried out on an additional 275 km of roads;
- repair of 2,000 km of rural roads, as well as bridges and other related infrastructure; and
- institutional strengthening measures.
