The project will build a 70 km-long bitumen road, linking the district capitals of Mongo and Kalabo. The construction involves building road embankments with culverts that permit cross-drainage across the flood plains. In addition, two new ferries with a capacity of 45 tons each will be purchased. A reliable direct route across the flood plain is expected to benefit not only the Mongu and Kalabo districts, but also the entire Western Province. In addition to bringing social services within reach, the new road will permit more efficient transports of farm produce to outside markets, thus boosting agricultural production.
