The first phase of this project will excavate a 27-km tunnel, through which water from the Melamchi River will be channeled to Kathmandu Valley. This supply, along with water from the region’s smaller tributaries, will be processed at a new treatment plant. Other works will include:
- construction of a new distribution system and rehabilitation of existing ones
- upgrading of four sewage treatment plants
- construction of new sewers
- installation of public sanitary facilities
- construction of a 25 km-long access road
- upgrading of a 29 km-long main road
