The 141 km-long Mandina Ba–Soma road provides a key link between the capital Banjul and the eastern interior of the country. Constructed some 40 years ago, the road has deteriorated through lack of maintenance and represents a considerable impediment to socio-economic growth.
Under the project, the road will be upgraded to a seven meter wide, two-lane carriageway, with 1.5 meter shoulders on either side. Its completion will provide a faster, cheaper and more reliable means of transportation, and act as an incentive to farmers to increase productivity.
