The OPEC Fund’s grant was utilized toward the cost of research contracts with national institutions in India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The project started in 1991 and completed by mid-1997 after a long delay. Despite the difficulties encountered, the results achieved are satisfactory. The scientific reports were published and a copy was made available to the Fund in May 1998. The final financial report reflected an unutilized balance of US$7,000, which was refunded to the OPEC Fund’s account, and the total unutilized balance of US$13,054.18 was cancelled.
