In 2003, OFID signed a $6.5 million loan agreement with Senegal to reconstruct the gravel-surfaced, 120 km-long Linguère–Boulal Road in Northwestern Senegal. Meanwhile, a gap in financing has developed due to a combination of the devalued dollar, an increase in construction prices and modifications that were made to the original road design. With the first phase of the project now well advanced, this supplementary loan will help finance the cost of the remaining works. The road is being reconstructed on an elevated embankment that is less prone to flooding, and drainage ditches and culverts will be installed.
