The grant was extended in support of the 4th International Student Energy Summit ISES 2015 to be held in Bali, Indonesia from June 10 to 13, 2015, with the overarching theme "Connecting the Unconnected". The grant proceeds cover registration and travel costs of around 20 students from developing countries. From June 10-13, 2015, the International Student Energy Summit (ISES 2015) brought together over 500 students from 75 countries in Bali, Indonesia, making the event the largest and most diverse Student Energy Summit at the time. The summit was organized by a planning team of 59 young, passionate energy leaders from Indonesia. It was held in partnership with Student Energy and the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Speakers, sponsors and delegates came together to share knowledge and exchange ideas on the future of energy, and the event created a network of driven individuals looking to make a difference in the energy sector. The theme for the 2015 Summit was “Connecting the Unconnected” and focused on how the world’s most talented young leaders can tackle the issues of energy poverty and energy access. The event received overwhelming positive feedback and support from its speakers and attendees, and received widespread recognition. Former United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon recognized the Bali summit for being “a crucial platform to engage the energy leaders of tomorrow.” Our delegates have commended us on the program, the execution, and the overall quality of this event, based on our post-event survey. The primary objectives of ISES 2015 were as follows: ¿ Educate students about current issues in the global energy system. ¿ Inspire students with the knowledge and courage to challenge the current energy system. ¿ Unite like-minded students motivated to lead the world to a sustainable energy future. To achieve these objectives, we defined three main pillars that we identified as being fundamental to addressing key issues in the ongoing energy transition: ¿ Markets and Regulation analyzes the context of the current energy system by evaluating the market forces and policies that influence its development. ¿ Global Energy Dynamics addresses how energy impacts geo-politics and global development as the world becomes increasingly interdependent. ¿ Technology and Innovation focuses on new processes and technologies being developed and implemented in both conventional and alternative disciplines. ISES 2015 was a unique conference that consisted of a variety of events, workshops and activities carefully designed to engage delegates and speakers. The program for the summit included plenary sessions with global leaders in the energy sector, a Change makers Panel featuring inspiring young energy leaders, a fast-paced Innovation Jam, a student case competition, the Bank Mandiri Photo Competition, and even a field trip to visit Bangli, a pioneering renewable energy facility in Bali. ISES 2015 also hosted a variety of social events for delegates and speakers to meet and network after each engaging day of the summit. The conference featured six plenary sessions and twelve parallel sessions with leading experts in various energy issues, as well as keynote speakers. In addition to hearing from and meeting with these global energy leaders, delegates also got a chance to learn from and be inspired by their peers who are conducting groundbreaking research, or starting innovative energy ventures. The Creative Program of ISES 2015 featured a Research Corner that showcased eleven research projects led by delegates.
