The grant was extended to the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care (IAPAC) to address health work force challenges in five East African countries to achieve greater efficiencies in the provision of healthcare services and to expand access to HIV services as an intervention to prevent mother-to-child transmission. The grant proceeds supported the establishment and development of an innovative Multidisciplinary Care Team (MCT) approach to the provision of healthcare in the beneficiary countries. A pilot MCT model was designed and implemented in two phases at clinical sites and disseminated region-wide in collaboration with the WHO, and implementation support and relevant technical assistance was provided to beneficiary countries.
