This project aims at helping control the spread of HIV/AIDS and other contagious diseases. Works will include:
- expansion of four blood transfusion centers in Djibouti City and construction of four new ones;
- construction of a 1,940-m2 two-story extension to the existing maternity hospital in Dar el Hannan;
- purchase of laboratory and diagnostic equipment for above hospital;
- provision of a one-year supply of low cost medications that can be purchases under a cost recovery system;
- provision of training for around 100 midwives and nurses, as well as other clinical support staff; and
- establishment of sensitization campaigns to educate the population about good health practices and preventative measures relating to contagious diseases.
