Although government has made impressive gains in improving health indicators in Cape Verde, coverage remains unbalanced. Many health care services are available only on the two larger islands; Santiago and São Vincente. As a result, facilities are frequently overcrowded and remote communities left underserved.
To address this issue, the project will replace four existing health clinics on the islands of Boa Vista, Maio, Fogo and Santiago. Additionally, a medical center on Santiago Island will be extensively rehabilitated. The new facilities are expected to directly benefit at least 80,000 people through the provision of accessible and affordable health care.
