The Greater Rajshahi Region, populated by around 1.3 million people, yields a wide array of crops. The area’s poorly-functioning electricity network delivers inconsistent electrical power, which in turn disrupts the running of irrigation systems. Moreover, many households are unconnected to the network, particularly in rural areas. Works to be carried out under the project include:
- rehabilitation of electricity network in the Greater Rajshahi Region to meet present and future needs
- installation of around 360 km of high voltage transmission lines
- installation of some 200 km of distribution lines
- expansion, rehabilitation and re-equipping of transformer stations and construction of new ones
