Government is in the process of implementing a national strategy to rehabilitate the primary road network and has succeeded in paving most of the key stretches. The project will carry out the following:
- paving of two remaining unpaved portions, totalling 50 km, of the Southern Highway between Golden Stream and the Guatemalan border;
- construction of drainage systems and culverts;
- repair of bridges; and installation of signalling and safety devices.
