This project will support government’s power sector development strategy, which seeks to increase the use of hydropower and reduce dependence on imported fuel. Activities to be carried out include:

  • construction of a hydropower plant on the Golan Gol River in the Mastuj Valley-Chitral District of the North Western Frontier Province;
  • construction of a diversion weir;
  • installation of three hydropower generating units with a combined capacity of 106 MW; and
  • installation of a 132 kV transmission line to connect the power station to the national grid.
The new plant will mean cheaper and more reliable power supplies and increased service coverage to an additional 21% of the population.
