The grant of US$10,000 was to support a research study on female genital mutilation (FGM) carried out by the independent, non-governmental organization, the Vienna Institute for Development and Cooperation (VIDC). The VIDC research study was undertaken in three selected African countries, and was followed by a conference to discuss the study's findings, propose remedies and to stimulate joint action in the fight against FGM.
