With the acute and chronic problem in energy supply in Gaza, this project was aimed at improving and sustaining the provision of health services in the Gaza Strip. It entailed equipping with solar systems seven health facilities, including – El-Wafaa Hospital for the elderly; the - Jordanian Field Hospital (Al-We’aam Society); the Community Rehabilitation Center for Disabled People; the Artificial Limbs and Rehabilitation Center for Disabled People in Gaza; Al-Awda Health Center in Rafah, Ard Al-Insan and the Public Aid Hospital. Around 400,000 persons who use the services of those institutions annually will benefit from this project. Project Outputs: 1. Solar systems installed and operated to generate 450 Kwh\day in targeted health facilities: This component entailed a kick off meeting was conducted with beneficiaries; preparing the ToR for consultancy services for the interest of the four OFID-supported systems; announcement and evaluation of the tender and contracting the most responsive offer; and, based on technical designs that correspond to the needs of each health facility; technical consultants has completed assessment of needed power load estimates for each of the recipient facilities as well as designing the system based on the required capacity and available roof space based on top-down design methodology. 2. Increased energy efficiency -50% of lighting loads reduced- for lighting systems within the targeted facilities.
