This project aimed at improving food security of vulnerable farmers and households in the Gaza Strip, in particular small scale open field and greenhouse farmers who were affected by the deteriorated situation and the repeated conflicts. The project was expected to directly benefit 1,186 households and about 681 farming households. Summary of the activities carried out: All planned activities have been accomplished, targets were met and some cases exceeded. This includes the following: 1. appointing the project team and signing the consultancy service contract; 2. Beneficiary’s Selection and Verification; 3. Technical Assistance and Support infrastructure – including the technical needs assessment, follow up of the inputs deliveries and ensure effective rehabilitations of the farming support (open fields, greenhouses, water wells and water carrier lines; 4. Farmers Soft Capacity building and Awareness; 5. 140 small-scale farming households were identified and selected to be targeted for the rehabilitation of the open fields. Due to the procurement savings, an additional 11 beneficiaries have been selected and their lands were rehabilitated, resulting in total of 151 small-scale farmers; 6. 236 small-scale farming households have been identified and selected for the maintenance of greenhouses. Due to the procurement savings, additional 23 farmers were selected and targeted in Rafah, with the total beneficiaries of 259 small-scale farming households; 7. 17 irrigation water wells were selected and rehabilitated in Gaza. Due to the procurement savings, additional 3 irrigation water wells have been also targeted; a total of 20 irrigation water wells. 8. 13,100 meters of the carrier lines were identified in the target localities. Installation of the water carrier lines were completed. 9. Awareness sessions were conducted for 350 small-scale farming households on the best agriculture practices; where 169 greenhouse farmers and 181 open field farmers received -trainings and awareness on integrated pest management, irrigation and fertilizing techniques and access to market.
