In 2007, some 25 million people were affected by damage caused by Cyclone Sidr. To aid the country’s recovery, the project will implement of capacity-building measures and improve Government’s disaster preparedness by enhancing early warning systems in cooperation with neighboring countries. In addition, swift import financing for essential commodities and inputs, particularly for agriculture will be provided. The project will also carry out a wide range of rehabilitation works, including:
- rehabilitation of roads, bridges and culverts in 23 districts
- repair/construction of flood and cyclone shelters
- repair of 800 km of damaged national, regional and district roads, as well as 64 bridges and culverts in 30 municipalities
- carrying out of a water resources component that will rehabilitate flood control works, drainage and irrigation facilities, embankment breaches
- repair or replacement of water control structures and canals
