The grant was in support of ICRC's ongoing humanitarian operations in Yemen, mainly the distribution of food and essential items to nearly 17,000 people. In response to the shortage of supplies in Yemen, the National Society and the ICRC provided internally displaced people (IDPs) and vulnerable residents with basic goods. Some 420,650 people (60,040 households) received food parcels, and about 204,000 people (28,900 households) were given basic household items. In Taiz, ICRC vouchers enabled 91,000 people (13,000 households) to have a daily supply of bread. Local bakeries took part in the initiative, benefitting local workers as well. Distributions of essential items were organized in hospitals, schools, National Society branch offices and other sites in coordination with the ICRC’s partners. Around 4,100 households (about 29,000 people) received cash assistance from the ICRC. Among them were some 2,860 people (supporting 20,000 people in all) who earned money by cleaning irrigation canals or by participating in garbage-collection campaigns that were part of the ICRC’s response to the cholera outbreak. About 1,260 households (8,820 people) received cash grants for their urgent needs or for improving their livelihoods. Where circumstances allowed, the agriculture ministry and the ICRC maintained their livelihood-support activities. Around 19,400 households (nearly 136,000 people in all) cultivated crops using seed and tools from the ICRC, and/or had their animals vaccinated or treated against disease. Livestock services were provided by 213 people who had received training in animal-health services. In summary: 420,653 people received food, 9,176 food parcels, 204,143 people received essential household items, 3,440 blankets, 135,625 people benefited from seed, tools and other support that enabled them to protect or boost their livelihoods, 1,978 kitchen sets, 19,571 (including 1,271 women) detainees received hygiene and other basic items, 91,000 people received vouchers for obtaining bread, 28,861 people were given cash to supplement their income or to help cover their basic expenses, 2,237 hygiene parcels, 213 people received training to help boost economic security. In addition, below is some of other achievements in 2017 on behalf of communities throughout the country: • 338,000 people benefited from the ICRC activities in the field of water and sanitation • 879,000 people, including those displaced received various forms of assistance • 6,000 detainees benefited from improved living conditions – ventilation and sanitation sytsems – and access to clean water inside detention place • 560 weapon bearers and health care professionals participated in first aid training in front-line areas • 140,000 wounded and emergency trauma patients received around 30,120 surgeries • 71,711 people with disabilities, including more than 6,600 amputees, obtained physical rehabilitation services at five ICRC-supported centres in Aden, Mukalla, San’a, Taiz and Sa’ada OFID contribution of USD 400,000 enabled the ICRC to distribute the following items to people in need: 9,176 food parcels, 1,978 kitchen sets, 3,440 blankets, 2,237 hygiene parcels.
