The grant was extended in support of ICRC's on-going humanitarian operations in Yemen, in particular for the procurement, transportation, storage and handling of much needed emergency goods such as: kitchen sets, buckets, tarpaulins, hygiene parcels, sleeping mats, blankets. OFID’s assistance covered the imminent needs of more than 2,600 households in distress as well as many other victims of the conflict. This Grant contributed to ICRC Emergency Aid to Yemen in providing vulnerable households with their immediate needs, the Yemen Red Crescent Society and the ICRC distributes emergency relief in the form of food, nutritional supplements, household essentials and cash. Two years since the start of the conflict, Yemen faces one of the biggest humanitarian crises in the world. Around three million people -ten percent of the population- have been displaced, and ten million are uncertain of how they will provide food for themselves. The ICRC has worked against challenges and recurring security incidents in Yemen and was able to help around three million people across the country. ICRC has been helping the population meet their basic needs especially through distributing food, essential items and other livelihood support. ICRC has developed economic security activities to ensure that individuals and communities in war torn countries can cover their essential needs sustainably and with dignity. The ICRC worked closely with the Yemeni Red Crescent to carry out its work.
