This project will carry out a grid intensification program, focusing initially on the larger cities such as Kigali, Kibuye and Ruhengeri.
- provision of support to Electrogaz to procure hardware, equipment and vehicles needed to improve maintenance services;
- extension of the existing national grid to link unconnected areas;
- implementation of a “Green Connection” to offer less-expensive energy alternatives to low-income households;
- provision of low-cost “energy boards” to low-income households to reduce the need for internal wiring. This will enable families living in dwellings ineligible to receive connections (such as thatched-roof houses) to qualify for electrical power.
