This project aims at meeting the country's energy demands through 1991 by increasing its generating capacity by 242 MW. The project comprises the following activities:

  • builidng of of a concrete arch dam, including intake and tailrace structures, pressure shafts and spillways;
  • construction of an underground power station with four turbines and their respective 73 MW generators;
  • construction of an exterior substation to house the central control offices connected to the power station by an access tunnel;
  • building of an access road to the dam crest; and
  • detailed engineering for construction design and the supervision and administration of works.
