The project constitutes the first phase of an electrification scheme to supply electricity to five towns east of Mukhalla and thirteen nearby villages. The objectives of the project is to provide the towns with a central and more fuel-efficient power stations, which will replace the existing independent generating sets. Thus, electricity losses will be reduced and demand presently in excess of supply will be met.
