For landlocked, mountainous Tajikistan, its 26,000 km road network is a vital means of transport. Much of it, however, is old and badly worn, such as the Dushanbe–Kyrgyz Border Road, a key transport corridor. Phase I rehabilitated the first 140 km of the road; Phase II will carry out the following:
- rehabilitation of an additional 89 km of the Dushanbe–Kyrgyz Border road;
- improvement of 60 km of rural feeder roads;
- installation of drainage facilities; and
- replacement, repair and construction of bridges.
