The project aimed at the development of high salt tolerance varieties of pearl millet and sorghum genotypes with high grain and fodder yields for farmers in the arid and semi-arid regions worldwide. Research activities were implemented in cooperation with the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT). The new varieties, with optimum production packages for economic and sustainable cropping in salt-affected environment, will be distributed to the National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS) and farmers in India, Iran, Sudan, Yemen, Oman and the U.A.E. Project implementation is progressing well.
