The project will upgrade the Dar Es Salaam-Somanga Road to bituminous standard and build drainage structures to protect against flooding. The provision of broader carriageways and shoulders and the re-alignment of some stretches of roadbed will not only make higher travel speeds possible, but also help the road withstand flooding better. On completion, the population will have a safer, more reliable link to outside markets and to the capital, Dar es Salaam, and a cheaper, more efficient means of transport for agricultural products and inputs.
