The coastline east of Cotonou Port is deteriorating rapidly, causing an average loss of 12 m of land each year. In order to halt further degradation, project activities will take place in the southern part of Cotonou City in the commune of Seme Kpodji, which is bordered by a sandy beach that is vulnerable to marine erosion. Project works will thus include the following:
- construction of seven rocked headlands and a revetment to protect about 7.5 km of the eastern coastline;
- reconstruction of the existing headland Epi de Siafato; and
- refilling of a 220 m-long embankment at the most sensitive zone of the coastline.
