The project is part of a government power development program designed to reduce the country's dependence on imported oil through the development of its indigenous energy resources. The project consists of the construction of a rockfill dam, an open spillway, an intake structure, a surface powerhouse (with three 80 MW generating units); the installation of 230 kV and 115 kV double circuit transmission lines; and a resettlement program for 315 families living in the reservoir area.
