Central, North-Eastern and South-Eastern Regions' Rural Development Project

The project aims at improving living conditions, boosting human resource capacity and promoting income-generating activities among vulnerable populations in the departments of El Progreso, Jalapa, Zacapa, Jutiapa and Santa Rosa. Activities will include, among many others, the implementation of institution-strengthening and capacity-building measures for municipalities, community councils and grass roots organizations.

A wide range of sub-projects will receive support, such as the rehabilitation of social and economic infrastructure. Some components will promote the development of rural businesses, especially small and microenterprises and those involved in artisanal activities, while others will provide labor skills training. Also planned are environmental conservation schemes and the construction and repair of water treatment and irrigation systems, rural electrification networks and roads.
