Inadequate healthcare during pregnancy and delivery is a main cause of the Congo’s high maternal and infant mortality rates. This project aims to change this situation by establishing a mother-child referral hospital in the capital Brazzaville; the 100-bed Blanche Gomes Maternity Hospital. It will comprise two five-story buildings with a combined area of over 17,000 m2. Medical equipment, furniture and vehicles will also be provided, By improving the quality and accessibility of mother- child healthcare, the hospital will reduce mortality rates, raise life expectancy and generally enhance the quality of life for some 1.6 million women and children in Brazzaville and surrounding districts.
