The project will rehabilitate a 40 km-long stretch of unpaved road between the towns of Bladen Bridge and Big Falls in Toledo district in the south. In addition to paving the road, the project will rebuild or repair several bridges and install culverts and drainage structures to reduce flooding.
The improved road will help make the movement of produce to markets and ports cheaper and more efficient, thus benefiting local farmers. Some 23,000 area inhabitants will also benefit from and easier access to social services and employment opportunities. In addition, as the road provides a link to the Pan-American Highway, it should help boost tourism, an important source of additional income.
