Enrolment rates in Kenya are uneven, with the lowest occurring in the provinces located in the country's arid and semi-arid areas. Most schools in these regions are underequipped and lack the infrastructure needed to accommodate special-needs children. The project will therefore construct multi-purpose classrooms in 200 primary schools and provide learning materials and Braille machines, ramps, rails and other furnishings to four special needs centers. Also planned is construction of 20 science laboratories in secondary schools and refurbishment of ten others, and purchase of laboratory equipment. Training courses will also be offered to around 250 primary and secondary teachers.
