The St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group was established in 1882. It is the only charity offering expert eye care to the Palestinian population of East Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip with the goal, in line with the World Health Organization's Vision2020 program, to eliminate preventable blindness in the region and to train local doctors and nurses. The grant was extended in support of the services at the hospital.
