The Society for the Care of the Handicapped was established in Gaza in 1975 as an independent, non-governmental and non-profit organization. It focuses on the development and empowerment of persons with disabilities and their families in the Gaza strip, through professional programs such as the Sun Day Centre for Special Education, vocational rehabilitation programs, home based programs for early intervention, speech and language programs, capacity building programs and nursery and kindergarten for the poorest handicapped babies and children. The grant supported the Sun Day Center in strengthening its infrastructure, special education programs, ability to accommodate the growing numbers of mental disability cases, academic education program of the disabled special school and developed the vocational rehabilitation program in the Center.
