This loan will encourage the development of artisanal fisheries, which will include rehabilitation of two older training centers and the establishment and equipping of two new ones along the coastline between J’Reif and N’Diago. Both experienced fishermen and 1,230 apprentices will be taught environmentally sound fishing techniques, and 500 women will be trained in fish processing, preservation and marketing techniques. Individuals who have completed these training programs will then be encouraged to form credit cooperatives. In addition, 30 km of access roads will be built. The project will also establish a pilot village, located beside one of the new training centers, to encourage the integration of the fishermen and their families in a settled community.
