Many rural roads in Benin consist of poorly-maintained earth tracks that are often rendered impassable during the rainy seasons. The 89-km long Akpro-Kpedekpo road provides access to the two fertile provinces Oueme and Zou, as well as to bordering Nigeria. This earth road is in sub-standard condition and frequently becomes flooded, hindering income generation and perpetuating poverty for the region's 320,000 inhabitants. The project will therefore:
- upgrade the road with an all-weather surface;
- installation of drainage systems to curb flooding;
- construction of two 45-m bridges.
