Six priority sub-projects would be supported under the project. They are as follows:

  • Development of small-scale schemes (110 to 300 ha each) over some 3,600 ha, primarily in Vientiane Province, but also in major rice growing provinces of Khammouan, Svannakhey, Saravane and Champassak;
  • Increased paddy and upland crop production through provision of inputs, land preparation, and extension services;
  • Provision of equipment to the Vientiane Provincial Authority to increase access to markets through the improved maintenance of feeder roads;
  • Development of medium-scale animal feed industry (10,000 tons/year) based primarily on locally produced raw materials;
  • Establishment of a small-scale sugar processing facility to process locally grown sugarcane into about 1,000 tons of plantation white sugar per year; and
  • Improvement of systems for materials and spare parts inventories, procurement and delivery of materials.
