In 2005, OFID co-financed a project aimed at helping address critical water shortages in the capital Nouakchott, which relies on underground supplies from the Trarza aquifer, whose water levels are declining significantly. However, the combination of currency exchange fluctuations, substantial increases in the cost of construction materials and transport costs have resulted in a funding gap. The present loan will help cover these additional costs.
