December 5, 2017, Vienna, Austria. The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has approved a grant to the Family Counseling and Development Foundation (FCDF), an NGO provides mental health services to populations in Yemen severely affected by the ongoing conflict.

Yemen is facing one of the biggest humanitarian crises in the world, with 21 million people in need of assistance. According to World Health Organization estimates, over five million of them are suffering from severe psychological and mental health disorders as a direct result of the crisis, and are in urgent need of psychosocial support.

The FCDF approached OFID to help bolster its ongoing efforts to address the mental health needs of vulnerable populations in Yemen's Sana'a, Aden, Taiz, Amran and Hajjah governorates. OFID's US$100,000 grant will support the provision of mental health assistance to some 400 individuals identified by FCDF as being among the most serious cases.

Since its inception in 2011, FCDF has accumulated an intensified expertise and provided assistance to thousands of individuals in need in Yemen. The organization has implemented many programs on psychotherapy; psychological and social counseling; emergency and psychosocial support; training and rehabilitation; in addition to access, awareness and education. FCDF's sources of funding include the Government of the Netherlands; Women without Borders and donations from the private sector.
