Project activities will take place in the Greater Kordofan region, comprising the states of North, South and West Kordofan. In addition to being a primary livestock-producing region, Greater Kordofan contains an important livestock terminal market in El Obeid. The project comprises five primary components, which will carry out, among other activities:
- rehabilitation of livestock routes and water points
- establishment of rural financial services
- establishment of a community and extension component to help address specific problems being faced by the poorer segments of the population
- provision of institutional support
- rehabilitation and/or construction of approximately 440 km of rural feeder roads, placing priority on upgrading the road between Semieh (on the highway from Khartoum to El Obeid) to Kurgul in the southwest
