The demand for skilled manpower by the industry, agriculture and commerce sectors has far exceeded the number of graduates from Ugandan technical and vocational institutions. Government is therefore seeking to expand the population's access to specialized training. This project will carry out the following:
- construction of nine technical institutions in districts where such facilities currently do not exist;
- construction of workshops, libraries, dormitories and sports facilities at each institution;
- provision of furniture, equipment, supplies and teaching materials;
- construction of staff housing;
- formulation of new curricula according to the skills’ requirements of the local communities/districts; and
- capacity-building and institution-strengthening measures.
