Although the first two phases of the Government’s Public Works Project has made considerable progress in improving living conditions, pockets of poverty still exist in Yemen.
Phase III will implement some 1,000 sub-projects across Yemen’s 20 governorates, aimed at raising health and literacy standards and developing basic community infrastructure. The sub-projects will focus on strengthening the availability of essential rural infrastructure, such as schools and health centers, roads and water supply and sanitation facilities. Priority will be given to the most deprived areas. All schemes will be led by the recipient communities and as much work as possible carried out by small, local contractors..
