The project provided for conducting a population census in the Occupied Palestinian Territory in December 2007 by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) with the assistance of UNFPA. The census covered the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip. The project aimed at developing capacity in the Palestinian Authority to produce series of reliable and timely demographic data through population censuses and surveys as well as in the processing, analysis, evaluation and dissemination of population data required for policy formulation, development planning and administration. Furthermore, a comprehensive data base was created.
