The Shirvan gas power plant is situated approximately 120 km southeast of Azerbaijan’s capital Baku. Built in 1968, the facility is in very poor condition and as a result, the population experiences frequent and long service interruptions. The project will therefore replace the Shirvan facility with a new power plant in the city of Janub. The new gas-fired plant will be designed to generate 780 MW of electricity using highly-efficient combined cycle technology. Once commissioned, the new plant will reduce the consumption of natural gas substantially and also generate considerable savings in operational and maintenance costs.
