This loan was to help support the development activities of the SZOPAD Social Fund, established in 1997 to address the reconstruction needs of the conflict-torn southern regions. Small-scale sub-projects were implemented across the Zone, focussing on providing essential infrastructure and services, including rural roads, irrigation, water supply and sanitation systems, clinics and schools. This contributed towards reconstructing villages, resettling displaced persons and laying the foundations for self-sustaining growth.
