The project will cover 19 districts in five regions (Analamange, Itasy, Upper Matsiatra, Vatovavy and Sofia), populated by 6.6 million people. Targeted beneficiaries are Rural Micro- Enterprises (RMEs) that employ fewer than five workers, and Small Rural Enterprises (SREs) that engage between five and 15 employees. The program’s components include identification and mobilization of RMEs/SREs, as well as providing them with business development services and vocational training. Additionally, rural finance and risk mitigation management are planned. OFID’s loan will specifically co-fund the development of infrastructure. Other works include the installation of power generators, construction of multi-purpose business centers, building plant breeding facilities and 17 agricultural-processing facilities. Some 48,000 rural enterprises, half of which are owned by women, will benefit from the project.
