The grant was extended to the International Center for the Improvement of Maize and Wheat (CIMMYT) to enhance food and income security in drought-prone areas of Sub-Saharan Africa, particularly to the resource-poor and women and children. The specific objective was to generate and disseminate QPM varieties to abiotic and biotic stress and adapted to the drought prone mid-altitude of Sub-Saharan Africa.
