Expanding on the successes carried out under Phase I, Phase II aims at improving living conditions of five low-income communities,populated by around 53,300 people, located in the south side of Belize city. Works will include the following:

  • improvement and rehabilitation of urban infrastructure, such as drainage works and roads;
  • elevation of public areas to protect against flooding;
  • repair or replacement of housing units;
  • establishment of a labor market integration program for young entrepreneurs; and
  • provision of adult literacy programs and skills/vocational training.
On completion, the project is expected to boost socio-economic development considerably in what is considered to the poorest area in Belize City.
