The project makes up part of a larger project to be carried out in three phases. Although works are already underway to build a 29.56 km-long asphalt-surfaced dual carriageway between the southern districts of Taabo and Toumodi, rising oil prices and the subsequent increase in the cost of raw construction materials have led to a funding gap. The present loan will provide the extra financing needed to insure the project can be completed.
